My husband bought this cute little cabinet at an antique store last week.   I thought it would be perfect for painting because of all the detail and the fact that it is really dark.  So, that when I distress it, there would be a lot of contrast with the light paint.  I’ve said before that I really think dark wood underneath is best for distressing.

Here is what the cabinet looked like before I painted it:

I started out by sanding the piece thoroughly and then cleaning it with a wet washcloth.  I painted on 2 coats of Annie Sloan’s “paris gray” chalk paint with a wide paint brush.  I sanded between coats.

Then, with the last coat, I used my electric sander to smooth out the whole piece and do a little distressing.  Then, I finished it with a coat of wax over the whole piece.  I’m happy with how it turned out!
